Cruel Intentions
Cruel Intentions is a 1999 American film has its distribution Ryan Phillippe, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, and Selma Blair. The film is an adaptation of the epistolary novel in the eighteenth century, dangerous links written by Choderlos of Laclos.
Unlike other screenings of the book, the film is set in the rich and bored world of teenagers in New York end of the twentieth century. The issue is centered on a bet made about the two main characters, Kathryn Merteuil (played by Gellar) and Sebastian Valmont (played by Phillippe) that is amplified in a game of manipulation, seduction and, finally, love.
The film started as an independent project with a very small budget, and was later adopted by Columbia Pictures. He had then two consequences: seduction temptation 2 (that takes place several years before the events of the first part) and seduction temptation 3, which has as main character Cassidy Merteuil, Kathryn’s cousin.
Although not a huge box office success, the film grossed about 39 million dollars.
The film ends with Kathryn’s unmasking in the whole school, Annette and Cecile performed by exposure, which multiplies Sebastian’s diary and distribute it throughout the school.
